One of the biggest weapons in oil-control technology is the trap-door baffle within an oil pan. Unlike static baffles, trap-door baffles open and close to allow almost unrestricted one-way fluid flow, while effectively limiting flow in the opposite direction. The baffle assemblies are arranged in a way that allows oil to move from non-pickup areas to the sump pickup area, through the use of baffle doors that have wire hinges that open approximately 1/3 of the way (so the door can close quickly without allowing too much oil to pass through).
