One of the biggest weapons in oil-control technology is the trap-door baffle within an oil pan. Unlike static baffles, trap-door baffles open and close to allow almost unrestricted one-way fluid flow, while effectively limiting flow in the opposite direction. The baffle assemblies are arranged in a way that allows oil to move from non-pickup areas to the sump pickup area, through the use of baffle doors that have wire hinges that open approximately 1/3 of the way (so the door can close quickly without allowing too much oil to pass through). The simplest of all the Moroso baffle designs is the Street/Strip and Drag Racing oil pan that only needs to control oil in two directions, forward and backward (under acceleration and deceleration). All of these oil pans incorporate a horizontal baffle that allows oil to move toward the pickup while accelerating, and prevents oil from leaving the pickup area while decelerating.
