1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Custom Build: Amy Hunter’s Dream Car by JBs Power Centre

Amy Hunter has been a self-proclaimed “Car Girl” since she was 12, and her lifelong dream was to build a Chevelle with her dad, Bruce.

About 10 years ago, Amy purchased her extremely clean 1971 Chevelle and always had “an ultimate plan” in mind for it.

A fun fact? Amy’s dad Bruce, who used to live in Sherwood Park, was actually a customer of Jim Bell’s about 50 years ago. Jim helped Bruce pick the right parts to build his very fast Chevelle “back in the day,” when Speedway Park was the place to be for quarter-mile fun. This project brought that legacy full circle — a father and daughter, back at JB’s, building something special.

👉 One part of the process that was especially important to Amy and her dad Bruce was being part of the dyno session in JB’s in-house dyno cell — watching her engine come to life for the first time. Before we installed the Stage-2 Proworx Performance 383 Small Block Chevy, we arranged for Amy and Bruce to be here in Edmonton to witness the engine break-in and full dyno pull firsthand. The result? It didn’t just meet the advertised numbers — it surpassed them.

Shortly after, Amy, her husband, and their three young children made the 6+ hour trip from Manning, AB, to trailer in the Chevelle, and complete a final in-person consultation with Fern, Ian, and Roger before we got started on the transformation.

On April 15th, 2025, that dream rolled into JB’s Power Centre West Edmonton and the transformation began. Out came the tired 307 cu. in. 2bbl. small block, Turbo 350 trans, sagging tired suspension, drum brakes, factory bench seat, and more…

📅 Fast forward to June 9th, 2025 — Reveal Day. Amy, her dad Bruce, and mom Shell showed up for the big moment. Amy’s Chevelle was parked out front, gleaming in the sun. She was over the moon happy... just look at the smile on her face when she first got behind the wheel and was taking in the BIG MOMENT.

For the first ride… Amy insisted JB’s owner Jim Bell take the wheel while she rode shotgun — and Jim was more than happy to oblige.

A quick turn onto the access road and… 🔥🔥 Tires roasted. Crowd of onlookers approved. 👍😊 The overall difference?… Night and day. A modern-day performance car ride, combined with serious power, killer brakes — all wrapped in classic Chevelle style. This is a car that you can drive down the highway in comfort and style, or cruise through town — and if anyone dares to wonder, “Is this car as fast as it looks?”... there’s no doubt Amy will be more than happy to show them the answer is YES with a capital Y, as she leaves them in the rear-view mirror. A dream 13+ years in the making — and now, it’s reality.
